Healthy Living Niagara sponsors workplace awards each year. These Workplace Awards recognize companies in Niagara who demonstrate outstanding levels of commitment to their employees' health. Workplaces across Niagara can apply for a prestigious Workplace Award every year, by promoting Healthy Eating, Physical Activity, Tobacco (Smoke)-Free Living, Mental Health and Organizational Culture. Workplaces that sell tobacco products within their workplaces are unable to receive Workplace Awards.

Visit http://www.healthylivingniagara.com/workplace for your application. Application deadline is Sept 24, 2010

Did you know that walking is the #1 activity for Canadians? Yet, not all communities are designed for walking. We know that it can be hard to walk to work, to shop or to visit friends because things are so far apart. Towns, cities and rural hamlets do not always design streets and sidewalks to make it easy for people to walk. We also know that communities can do many simple things to support walking.

This site will provide you with tips and tools to make your community more walkable.

Walkable Community Checklist Report

A Compilation of Data on Existing Supports for Walkable Communities in Niagara and Areas in Need of Improvement

Healthy Living Niagara prepared this report based on data collected from residents about barriers that make it difficult for people to walk to many destinations in Niagara. It is hoped that this report will support budget and policy decisions that improve the built environment to better support walking and cycling.
